girlhood redefined

"Collecting and archiving are forms of cultural production, or at least serve as a catalyst for it... That’s my argument — the archive and special collection are not repositories for the detritus of past movements, cultural and political, but rather spaces where social and cultural transformation are always in process." - Kate Eichhorn

girlhood redefined was an installation at Indiana University featuring responses from an online archive I created gathering submissions of experiences of girlhood. The submissions were presented in relation to 20th c. moral sex education guides from the Kinsey Institute’s library collection used by parents to instill binary gender norms into children at home. Created in partnership with the Kinsey Institute.
